"..It’s about keeping a healthy mind set and dealing with things as they come.."
Emma Boyd, a 17 year-old model at Clyne Model Management with an amazing portfolio gives us a sneak peek into her life as a model. Being involved in the fashion industry for a few years and the new face of Staple + Cloth’s Look book SS14, Auckland based fashion model Emma is leading a very busy life. Not only is she jetting around New Zealand for various shoots, she is also having to find time to fit in high school! With a bubbly persona, Emma shows determination and attitude necessary to achieve what she dreams of. We asked Emma to tell us more about her career as a model and share some advice for those who want to break into the fashion industry.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
I’m very bubbly and a talkative person but honestly I am a shopaholic!
How would you describe your style?
I would say it is very simplistic and sleek. I tend to wear a lot of black, but keeping it fresh with a hint of colour.
What made you get into modelling / How long have you been modelling for?
A friend of my mothers who was a model herself suggested I contact an agency. Been modelling roughly for two years.
When was your first show and how did you cope with the nerves?
Probably 2 years ago now, I enjoyed it more than I was nervous, the nerves are all part of the excitement!

What’s your favourite modelling job you’ve done to date and why?
A campaign I did for Carena West Swimwear, it was so much fun, they let me bounce on a trampoline and I managed to still look serious.
What does an average day look like for you?
Early wakeup, FOOD, work, more food, and then finally bed.
How do you cope with the pressures of being a model and juggling modelling/school/work?
I guess it’s about keeping a healthy mind set and dealing with things as they come, I just have heaps of fun (maybe not at school)
Describe your perfect summers day?
Soaking up the sun on the beach surrounded by friends with coconut frozen yoghurt, yum yum!
Fave pieces from our SS14 collection, Transformation?
I really like The Kate Top and Marlene Cami shape. The Island Dress in jelly viscose is a must have and lastly the Lucid Cami in Cabana silk stripe, just perfect for Summer!
What are your guilty pleasures food wise?
What are you listening to at the moment?
Theres so much music on my playlist but currently its The 1975, Alt-j, Schoolboy Q, and The Weekend
What beauty tips do you swear by?
Nobody can live without a matte red lipstick! I’m also really into highlighting on the face, such a fresh look!
Do you have any words of wisdom for young fashion go-ers?
My advice for breaking into the fashion industry would be "it's not what you know, it's who you know", and to just BE YOURSELF.
“…the nerves are all part of the excitement!”
